  6. The Newton has a lot of potential, but the recognition dictionary in the 
  7. MessagePad is appalling. Having to use the soft keyboard to type stuff in all
  8. the time is a drag. And then it asks you if you want to add the word to the
  9. User Dictionary as well! This really gets in the way. AddToDict is a small
  10. Newton application that allows multiple additions to your User Dictionary in
  11. one sitting.

  13. Expect to see major improvments in the future, but here is what it does for now.

  16. Installation:

  18. Manually remove any copies of AddToDict's previous incarnation, "AddUserDict."
  19. Send the package file down to the Newton with your Connection Kit or ToolKit.
  20. -That's it.

  23. How It Works:

  25. Launch the application. Double tap on the text field to bring up the keyboard.
  26. Key in the words you wish to add to you User Dictionary into the text field
  27. and hit the button. It's as simple as that.

  29. You can try to write VERY neatly (as the recognition dictionary is turned off in
  30. the field) or, as I suggest, use the keyboard.

  32. When you tap the "Add them to the Dictionary" button, you will hear two kinds
  33. of sounds. The high-pitched 'ping' means a successful addition. The beep sound
  34. (set in your preferences) means that the word was not added -propably because
  35. it was already there.

  37. Even better, you can paste large lists into the field.  Try importing a list of
  38. words into your Notes using the Connection Kit. Once you have it in your notes,
  39. select the text drag it to the side of the screen so that it goes into the
  40. Clipboard. Next launch AddToDict and drag the clip back out. Then just hit the
  41. button. This saves a lot of tapping.

  46. Any punctuation or numbers will go in, so make careful lists.

  51. UserToDict is FreeWare but will be supported. Expect to see new features soon, 
  52. including: an Assist feature; deleting; printing; direct import from your
  53. Excel; dictionary software and your local mainframe. I will have some more
  54. useful word lists prepared soon and on their way. I know you are dying to send
  55. me money, but hold on to it for the moment. We need to get something a little
  56. more worthwhile together first. Your feedback will help shape its future.
